February 27 - March 5  Matthew 8; Mark 2 - 4 & Luke 7

"Thy Faith HatSaved Thee"

When I am afraid or in danger, Jesus can help me feel peace

Can you think of a time when you were scared? Did you know Jesus can help us not be afraid? He can give us peace
  • Read the story in Mark 4: 35-41
    • “[Jesus and his apostles were in a ship]… and there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full. And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish? And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm. And he said unto them, Why are ye so fearful? how is it that ye have no faith? And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?”
If you were on the ship, would you have felt scared? How did Jesus's apostles find comfort?
  • Jesus calmed the sea and helped them feel peace
Help the kids pretend they are on the boat in the storm with Jesus and his disciples
  • Invite one volunteer to come to the front of the class and hold the sign "Peace, be still". Instruct them to say Peace, be still, like Jesus did, to make the storm go away
  • Turn off the lights and bring storm sounds to listen to
  • Bring a spray bottle with a storm cloud taped to it and spray around the room during the storm (be mindful not to get anybody wet who doesn't want to get wet!)
  • When the volunteer raises the sign and says: "Peace, be still", stop spraying the water and pause the storm sounds.
  • This can be repeated as many times as desired
  • Afterwards discuss: "Jesus can bring us peace when there is a storm outside, [and] He can bring us peace in our hearts when we feel bad on the inside

I cut out the sign and laminated it, then taped it onto a large popsicle stick!

I laminated the storm cloud and taped it onto a spray bottle! The storm clouds are clipart. They are not my own creations!

Play the rain cloud trial game!
  • Put rain clouds on the board (each one labeled on the back with a trial someone may be having), covering a picture of the Savior
  • Invite a child, one at a time, to remove one of the clouds and suggest ways we can help someone with that trial to find peace
  • When all the clouds are removed, testify of the Savior's power to calm the storms in our lives

All of these storm clouds are clipart. They are not my own creations!

I came up with these trial scenarios and found some clipart images to match. I cut them out and taped them onto the back of the storm clouds for the game. Once they were put together, I laminated them!

As a handout, here are some stickers I made! I found some "tempest" coloring page images online and shrunk them to print on a sticker page. Next, I placed a one-sided laminated sticker on top to make the stickers shiny. I then cut out each sticker individually to put together in a baggy for the children to take home! I encouraged them to put it in their stickers or somewhere that will help them remember what they learned.
